In the 17th century, the Spanish monarchy crumbled. Discuss the reasons why.?

I don't think the monarchy crumbled so much as all of Spain did. Spain and Portugal were the two great countries exploring and conquering new land...but they really didn't plan anything and they spent all their money bankrupting themselves.
